Things have progressively (or is it regressively?) changed here, and long ago I became disillusioned with the way some of the administrators here were handling things. To put it in three points:
- This site has not updated with the times. It may LOOK "web 2.0", but it does not serve its users in such a manner. While you may enjoy the AJAX-enhanced interface, you aren't getting many of the benefits of a well-thought-out site of today. RSS is deplorable here STILL. The administration's cute idea of opening up the site with a "share it" tool is laughable, and the list goes on. This has always been an amazing website, and it will continue to be as such, but do not be fooled into thinking it offers a lot to its users. It does not.
- I'm sick of "the opportunities" that this website presents to its users. The competitions that have the small print taglines that, upon winning, some big corporate body or group will gain all rights to your hard work--while you get a year-long subscription--are disgusting.
- Irrelevance. For an art site, it's easy to ignore the art if you'd rather participate in forums, chat, write on people's user pages, send messages or write in your journal. Too much other stuff going on for me to stay focused.
So I'm leaving here. I have no desire to stay. The only reason I've stayed here since January is because of the need to go through my entire gallery and remove things from my account. Now I have. I've removed every piece from my gallery and even from my storage. I did leave up one, though. You can still see all of my work and more at my website.
In other news, anyone who is sick of dA, go on over to RedBubble. I love this website and the community. It's very focused on art.
That is all. Bye.
